Scorching heat couldn’t keep thousands of people from showing up for what was an insanely out of this world(get it?) day at the LA Zoo. I showed up to a long but quick moving line in front of the zoo and as soon as I got in I bee-lined it to the Star Wars character meet and greet. As much as I love seeing stormtroopers and Darth Vader, the kids loved it more. I saw sooo many kids either scared to approach Vader or so confident in their Jedi abilities they walked right up and challenged him. The people putting this event on knew exactly what they were doing, the characters were spread out through the zoo so no matter where you went you saw someone from the Star Wars universe and they also had employees teaching kids about animals on our planet and how they related to Wampas and Tauntauns and Banthas. Even though it was over 104 degrees out, I stayed most of the day just walking around and seeing all the animals and Star Wars exhibits and when I needed my much needed break from the sun I went into Witherbee Auditorium where Master Yoda and another jedi master had Star Wars trivia and prizes for the kids before showing us some Blu Ray extras on the upcoming Star Wars Saga blu ray. I really hope this is an annual event because it was the most fun I’ve had in a while.
